What Is the Virtual Scoreboard?
The Virtual Scoreboard is a free, digital LED-style scoreboard built for youth baseball and softball games. It tracks runs, hits, and errors inning-by-inning on any device, giving your game the look and feel of a real ballpark scoreboard. No app download required. Just open it in your phone's browser and start keeping score.
Whether you are coaching t-ball, little league, travel ball, or rec league softball, this scoreboard works for any game format. It supports 4 through 9+ innings, auto-saves your game progress so you never lose the score, and displays clearly in both sunlight and shade.
Why Use a Digital Scoreboard for Baseball?
Always in Your Pocket
No clipboard or paper scorebook needed. Open the scoreboard on your phone and keep score with one hand while coaching from the dugout.
Easy to Read
The LED-style display is designed for visibility. Large numbers and high contrast make it easy to check the score at a glance, even from across the dugout.
Auto-Saves Progress
Close your browser by accident? No problem. The scoreboard saves your game locally on your device, so you can pick up right where you left off.
How It Works
Enter Team Names
Type in the away and home team names. These display at the top of the scoreboard just like a real ballpark board.
Set the Number of Innings
Choose 4, 5, 6, 7, or 9 innings based on your league format. If the game goes to extra innings, the scoreboard adds columns automatically.
Track Runs, Hits, and Errors
Use the large buttons to add runs for the batting team each inning. Track hits and errors with dedicated counters for each team.
Advance Through the Game
Move to the next half-inning when three outs are recorded. The inning indicator updates automatically to show top or bottom and which team is batting.
What Makes Our Virtual Scoreboard Different
LED-Style Display
Looks and feels like a real ballpark scoreboard. The amber-on-black design provides excellent visibility and kids love seeing a professional-looking scoreboard at their games.
Flexible Inning Count
Supports 4 through 9 innings with automatic extra inning columns. Works for t-ball (4 innings), little league (6 innings), travel ball (7 innings), and full 9-inning games.
Auto-Save to Device
Your game saves automatically as you update the score. Close the browser, answer a call, check a text. When you come back, the scoreboard is right where you left it.
One-Tap Scoring
Large, touch-friendly buttons make it easy to add runs, hits, and errors with a single tap. Designed for coaches who are managing a dugout, not staring at a screen.
Works for Baseball and Softball
The scoreboard format is identical for baseball and softball. Track any game, any league, any level. Runs, hits, and errors are universal across both sports.
100% Free, No Account
No signup, no download, no app store. Just open the page and start keeping score. Premium subscribers get additional features like game history and team integration.
When to Use This Scoreboard
Games Without Official Scorekeepers
Many youth leagues do not have dedicated scorekeepers. A parent or assistant coach can easily run this scoreboard on their phone while watching the game. No clipboard or paper scorebook required.
Practice Scrimmages
Make practice scrimmages feel more like real games by keeping score. Build your scrimmage into a structured practice using the practice planner. Kids get more engaged when there is a scoreboard showing the action, and it helps them practice being aware of the score and game situation.
Tournaments and Doubleheaders
Use our tournament bracket generator to create the bracket, then track each game with this scoreboard. During long tournament days, this scoreboard helps you track multiple games. Start a new game between matchups. The auto-save means you will not lose the score if you need to switch to another app between innings.
Teaching Score Awareness
Young players often have no idea what the score is during games. Use this visible scoreboard to help them learn game situations and understand when scoring opportunities matter most.
Scorekeeping Tips for Youth Baseball
Assign a Dedicated Scorekeeper
Even with an easy tool, scorekeeping requires attention. Assign one person (parent volunteer, assistant coach, or team manager) to be responsible for the scoreboard each game.
Update After Each Half-Inning
The easiest rhythm is to update runs scored at the end of each half-inning rather than after each play. This prevents confusion and missed updates during fast-paced action.
Skip Errors for Young Players
For ages 5 through 8, focus on tracking runs and having fun. Tracking errors can be discouraging at young ages. Save the detailed stats for competitive levels (10U and up).
Keep Your Phone Charged
Bring a portable charger or keep your phone plugged into a battery pack during games. The scoreboard uses minimal battery, but long tournament days can drain any phone.
Know Your League Rules
Many youth leagues have run limits per inning (like 5 runs) and mercy rules (10+ run lead after 4 innings). The scoreboard does not enforce these rules, so know your league's policies.
Match the Official Score
If there is a field scoreboard or official scorekeeper, your digital scoreboard should match. If there is a discrepancy, always defer to the official scorer or umpire.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this scoreboard work offline?
The scoreboard needs an internet connection to load initially, but once loaded, all scoring functions work offline. Your game progress is saved locally on your device, so you do not need a signal to keep scoring.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes. The scoreboard is fully responsive and works great on smartphones, tablets, and computers. The large buttons are designed for easy tapping on touchscreens, so you can update the score quickly between pitches.
What if I make a scoring mistake?
Easy to fix. Tap any score cell to open an editor where you can adjust the value up or down. You can also use the subtract buttons to reduce scores if you added too many runs. You can go back to any previous inning to make corrections.
Is there a limit to the number of innings?
No. If your game goes to extra innings, the scoreboard automatically adds new columns. You can play as many innings as needed. The initial inning count (4, 5, 6, 7, or 9) just sets the starting display.
Does this save my game history?
The free version saves your current game in progress on your device. When you start a new game, the previous score is replaced. For game history, season records, and team integration, premium members get full game management linked to their roster data.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes. The virtual scoreboard is completely free with no account required. Just open the page and start keeping score. Premium subscribers get additional features like saving game history to their account, linking scores to their team roster, and accessing the scoreboard from their game schedule.
Can I use this for softball games?
Absolutely. The scoreboard tracks runs, hits, and errors by inning, which is identical for both baseball and softball. Whether you are scoring a fastpitch softball game or a baseball game, the format and functionality are exactly the same.
